Four Points, Inc. receives funding from the Violence Against Women Act Grant to coordinate the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit Domestic Violence Task Force Teams. The Team Coordinator heads up 3 multidisciplinary teams that represent different segments of the population that suffer from abuse. The 3 teams are: Elder Abuse Team, Teen Dating Violence Team, and the Safety Audit/Fatality Review Team. These teams meet once per month to work to raise awareness, audit community response to abuse, and educate the community on these topics.
Teen Dating Violence Team
This team works to reduce teen dating violence by educating teens and the general public about the dangers, warning signs, and prevalence of teen dating violence. The team hosts an annual poster contest in the local middle schools to raise awareness of teen dating violence and to educate our local teens on what it is and where to get help. The team also shows a video of our play, "It's Love Isn't It?" to local middle school students as an additional method of raising awareness and educating our local teens. The team also presents to local teens at our area Teen Maze.
Elder Abuse Team
This team works to reduce elder abuse by educating those that work with seniors and the general public on identifying signs of elder abuse and what to do about it. This team hosts the annual Senior Expo at which vendors that provide services to seniors present their services, legal aid representatives are available, and the team distributes awareness and reporting information. This team also hosts the bi-annual training for professionals that work with seniors including law enforcement and nursing home staff among other professionals. This team provides training to senior center staff and Meals on Wheels staff to enhance their capacity to protect the seniors they work with.
Safety Audit/Fatality Review Team
This team works to increase the capacity of responders to domestic violence incidents to most effectively protect victims of domestic violence occurrence and also audits the events of a domestic violence fatalities to ensure proper protocol exists and is followed. This team conducts regular training with local law enforcement and also ensures that domestic violence response protocol is up to date and meets accepted standards across the local agencies that encounter domestic violence cases.
